About Woolaston
Hi! My name is Alison and I am a fully accredited teacher with Knitting For All. As such I offer knitting classes, in groups which are vey like "knitting clubs", and also as private 1-1 or small group lessons, to people of all ages and knitting abilities. Often I work in community groups., including care homes. I also handknit. a range of items for sale, including hats, mitts, cowls, headbands, baby items, teacosies and dog coats.. All are carefully handknitted in pure wool or other natural fibres.
Like lots of Scottish women of my generation, I learned to knit in the 1960's, sitting around the fireside with my mum, grandma and great aunt.
It has always been a hobby I enjoy, and in 2015 I started teaching knitting as a Knitting For All franchisee in north Glasgow, based in Kirkintilloch.
When lockdown hit in 2020, my coping mechanism was to knit my way through it, and the idea of selling pure wool, hand knit items was born. "Woolaston" is my maiden name, and so it was an obvious choice for the name of my new venture.
I hope you like what you see on the following pages, and please do contact me if you would like to join a class, or purchase an item. Most of my products are made to order, so can be knitted in a style, size or colour of your choice!
Household items
Teacosies, hot water bottle covers, and dog coats are just some of the items available
Classes, workshops and community groups
I am passionate about enabling more and more people to knit - a craft which can be enjoyed by all ages. Many people are surprised to learn there are only two basic stitches- knit and purl - and every pattern and design is simply a different combinations of these. As a fully accredited Knitting For All teacher, I run Knit Night and Day groups, and facilitate community groups and workshops

Linda, a happy tea drinker

I am delighted to Have found Alison's knitting class. I am a beginner and was not progressing at all with my cardigan till I joined this class. Under Alison's guidance I feel so much more confident about what I am doing, and instead of having a pile of wool, sitting in a bag, a cardigan is emerging!
Rose, a happy knitter

She has shown great patience working with this group. In addition she has been flexible in her approach to deliver to a group with varying communication needs, from sign language users, and those who are blind.
